Guest Essay

Written by Anne Austin Mitchell Boyd, sister of Nancy Austin. Anne is a teacher, writer and author, who lives in Durham following many years teaching in the Philadelphia Public School System. Anne wrote this for her students in the Durham Public School System. Nancy A. felt concepts could also apply to a bourgeoning PC Community.

As We Move Forward
Happy, Happy New Year!
New Years do come and old years go,
And memories do surely change
From high spirited and delightful times
To sadness and derision - what a range!
The good times we remember best,
If positivity's our aim.
But no matter how we wish or plan
Negativity's still to blame
For many troubles, stress and pain
That sometimes overwhelm us
And lead us down a troubled road
Of sadness and disgust,
Which may show in the form of
Attitudes, or action, or beliefs.
There's so much that we do not know
As we struggle for relief
From the troubles of the year gone by,
And look forward to having lives
Of wellness, peace, prosperity,
For which we all must strive.
Let's pray that it comes; let's do our best
To survive and move on,
And give our souls a rest
As those now in charge - do take charge
And guide us to where we need to be.

Introducing the Book Nook

The Pebble Creek Book Nook is both a digital and physical space where Creekers can share their favorite books and podcasts! If you have books youd like to swap, drop them by the bookshelf in the club house, or send your suggestions to Nancy and we will add them to the website!

"A human being is part of the whole called by us, Universe, a part limited time and space. We experience our self, our thoughts, and feelings as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison restricting us to our personal desires and affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all sentient beings."
